Design Process

We design smart home systems that make your home life simpler

Smart Home Design

It is crucial to the success of any project that our Design Engineers are involved at a very early stage in the project to identify together with the client the primary objectives for the project whether it be for a small office retrofit or the design of a complete Smart Home System.

At this point we would perform either a site survey or for a new build to work from architectural drawings going from room to room, understanding how the house will be used and how we can best tailor a Smart Home System.

WHAT ARE THE customer’s primary objectives?

•  Simple and easy to use with full functionality
•  Delivering  first class security
•  Access and control from anywhere
•  Improving the function of your home or business
•  Incorporating energy efficiency
•  Updating the look of your home or business

What would be controlled in the home and how would we control all these functions.

What will be Controlled?

• Home Theatre
• Multi Room Audio Systems
• Lighting
• Blinds / Curtains
• Air Conditioning
• Security Access Control
• Security Monitoring
• Remote Access Control

How will we Control?

• Key Pads
• Touchpads
• Phone App
• Voice Control

At this point, our Design Engineer will design the smart home that correctly fits the needs of the client taking into account budget, timescale and any specific custom requirements.
The Lighting Design would be tailored to the interior design philosophy of the house and most importantly how the house would be used by all family members.

Pre-Wire Planning

Up until fairly recently, the majority of new homes have been constructed with AC electrical power lines and telecoms and TV cables. However, the requirements for new build homes have changed significantly over the past decade or so, with Electrical Contractors now installing low voltage communications cables for a wide range of smart home systems.

The home systems that would normally require prewiring are:

  • Network
  • Home Theater
  • Multi-Room Audio Distribution
  • Multi Room Video Distribution
  • In Wall Touchscreens
  • Security & CCTV Surveillance
  • Utilities – Internet, cable TV
  • Blinds , Curtains , Intercoms

Note that even though there are increasing range of wireless devices available on the market today most of them use single organization owned protocols, thus making them incompatible with other manufacturer’s products.

As part of our standard design process, we would produce prewire electrical drawings based on agreed Smart Home Design which would be used by the Electrical Contractor for the project.

Networking and WIFI

A smart home in todays environment comprises of a multitude of connected devices and streaming services all requiring bandwith from your home network. Eventually, everything with power will become network aware, yet most home networks are not ready for the expanding requirements of a smart home.
It is paramount that a high performing and stable home network is critical to the functionality of any Smart Home System, the network must be seamless, scalable, reliable, and secure.
We design and install professional home network systems which will provide strong and robust WiFi and ethernet connections across the entire living space of your home, allowing the Control4 Smart Home System to perform effortlessly across any function.
